WELCOME MS. PAVLASEK!
The Scott Johnson Middle School family would like to welcome our new Assistant Band Director, Stephanie Pavlasek. Ms. Pavlasek's most recent adventures in teaching were with the highly successful Clark Middle School Band in the Frisco I.S.D. She is a Frisco native and received her degree from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, Tennessee.
Ms. Pavlasek's primary instrument is the clarinet and she will be teaching all the beginning woodwind classes. She will be the director of the Symphonic 2 Band.
MR. ROBASON BECOMES FULL TIME!
Last year we were blessed with the services of Mr. Zac Robason on a part time basis. Mr. Robason taught sectionals during class for the Symphonic 1 and 2 percussion students and took care of many percussion related duties. Mr. Austin Chappell came over from McKinney High School three days a week to teach to the beginning percussion class.
Due to a significant increase in enrollment in the McKinney North Band system the MISD has hired Mr. Robason as a full-time band director. He will be based at McKinney North High School and will teach the SJMS beginning percussion class every day. He will also help coordinate percussion activities with the 7th and 8th grade percussion students.
SJMS BAND STUDENTS RIDING THE "REGION ROLLER COASTER."
Each Tuesday throught the summer, several students have been involved in a project called "Ride the Region Rollercoaster." This program was designed to help prepare students for the Texas Music Educator's Association All-Region Band auditions that will occur in November. Each time a student attends a session, he or she receives a flag symbolizing one of the six flags that have flown over our state through its history. If a student attends six sessions, thereby collecting all six flags, he or she will be treated to a trip to Six Flags Over Texas with the other students who achieved the same goal. More flags truly means more fun! The ultimate goal is a successful audition in November. Good luck to these students and the other SJMS Band students who will be competing in November!
